It was a historical day in the Western, Westmoreland Constituency on Election Day September 3, as voter turned up early at the various polling station within the constituency to cast their vote for the candidate and party of their choice.
It was was a keenly contested rivalry as throughout the day supporters of the two major political party made sure that they galvanise all their supporters to come out early and vote.
Both party had a number of election day worker transporting their supporters to the various polling stations to cast their vote.
Several occasions throughout the day the Gleaner observed supporters from both side of the political bench wrapping with each other as they wait on their turn to vote.
During the course of the day the Gleaner visit a a number of polling station and made some observations all except one was opened on time and at one polling station in Grange Hill area voters were unable to vote for a while, as the presiding officer and her team sorted out some internal problem.
However, after some time things went back to normal and voting resumed smoothly and quickly and voters who were waiting went in and cast their vote briskly and shiftily without any further problem.
In terms of security this was very tight as member of the JDF and the Island Special Constabulary Force and they use the one day police officer, were tragically deplored and this resulted in an incident free day, as the zone commander Deputy Superintendent Cyril Driffett told the Gleaner that he started to deplored his men from has early as 4:30 a.m. at a strategic location within the constituency.
Overall he said the days event went on smoothly and it was incident free.
