'Words Once Unspoken' now speaks
(Jun-21-2007)

A new book of poetry, compiled exclusively by a Jamaican, has hit the international market shelves in some of the renowned bookstores. Written by Montego Bay-based clinical psychologist, Dr. Pearnel Bell, the book, Words Once Unspoken, was officially launched at her residence in Ironshore, Rose Hall, last Friday.

Words Once Unspoken was first published in April, and is being sold on sites such as barnesandnoble.com, amazon.com, and authorhouse.com. Just before 8:00 p.m. Dr. Bell mingled with her guests, which included family and close friends, chit-chatting about spontaneous topics. She then turned her attention to her guests, who were sprawled across the pool deck. "These poems are meant to be therapeutic. You are my 'guinea pigs', you know," she said. And without any further introduction, she started reading 'Wisdom'.

Guests listened attentively, clapped and cheered at intervals, as a litany of poetry followed, covering various topics, including motherhood, love, friendship, forgiveness and healing, overcoming struggles, and even vacation. "Poetry comes from inspiration. I could simply be relaxing and the poems just come. Writing has become therapy for me," Dr. Bell told Western Focus, adding that she had been writing her book for the past two years.

Although this is her first published work, she says there are inspirational books to come off the press in the near future. One is entitled Life's Mosaic, Things We Ought To Know - a book she reckons people should have to be able to know how to navigate for good mental health, and will be published by Author House. Balancing her job with writing is quite manageable, because writing is natural and words are inspirational. "It is not a burden for me," she adds.
