NHT Housing for Majesty Gardens and Unions Estate residents improve community
(Jun-06-2012)

The Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller ON, participated in a contract signing ceremony on May 24, for the construction of 48 housing units in Majesty Gardens in St. Andrew under the NHT’s Innercity Housing Project (ICHP).

Additionally, a strong community spirit was demonstrated by the residents of NHT’s Unions Estate in Twickenham Park, St. Catherine on Labour Day. Also, are you planning to buy your home this year? We have some great tips for you to consider. Finally, see the calendar of exciting events for Emancipation Park as it celebrates 10 years of service to Jamaica.

ALL ON THE GO FOR MAJESTY GARDENS HOUSING PROJECT

Prime minister and portfolio minister of the NHT, The Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller (centre) celebrates as she looks at plans to construct 48 housing units in Majesty Gardens in St. Andrew. The occasion was a contract signing ceremony held on Friday, May 18 at the Office of the Prime Minister. The contract was signed between the National Housing Trust (NHT) and Ashtrom Building Systems Limited to complete the units which had started under the NHT’s Innercity Housing Project (ICHP).  Joining the prime minister are (from left to right) Mr. Yuval Csillag, managing director of Ashtrom;  Dr. Morais Guy, minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing; chairman of the NHT, Mr. Easton Douglas; and managing director of the NHT, Mrs. A. Cecile Watson.

LABOUR DAY AT UNIONS ESTATE

Another community is seeing great improvements. Residents of the NHT scheme at Unions Estate in Twickenham Park, St. Catherine, came out in their numbers on Labour Day to improve the look of their community by painting the curb walls, pruning the shrubs, planting seedlings, and mowing the lawns.  Here, Rohan Lewis keeps an ackee seedling close at hand as Patrick Ferguson pours soil into a hole which was shovelled out earlier by Errol Dias.  Their teamwork made the day a success!

HOUSE SHOPPING TIPS

Also, are you planning to buy your home this year? We have some great tips for you to consider.

Prepare to deposit as much as possible. Most property owners are now asking for larger deposits than the 5% required by the NHT. So, long before you decide you are going to buy your home, you should start saving towards it. To help you with the costs, you may even consider asking your parents or good friends to make a ‘contribution’ towards the deposit.

Emancipation Park celebrates 10 years with exciting events

Can you believe that Emancipation Park is ten (10) this year?   Yes... the Park has achieved a significant milestone. This is especially important as Jamaica gets ready to commemorate its year of Jubilee. There are several plans in place to acknowledge this milestone.

The theme selected for the year’s celebrations is “Freedom Journey”. The commemoration of this milestone includes the staging of a series of cultural, entertaining and informative events throughout the year which will cater to the entire family.
