Easier annual returns as the NHT donates books and empowers communities
(Jan-10-2012)

The NHT is helping to make revenue collection easier in collaboration with the Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ), and National Insurance Scheme (NIS). Also, the NHT winds down its 35th anniversary celebrations with book donations to a number of schools, and continues to empower residents of NHT communities through training; safety and security; sports; music as well as employment.

Amalgamated Employer's Annual Return (S02)-One Form for Employer’s Annual Return

In keeping with a government initiative to simplify the filing of Annual Returns, as of January 9, 2012 all employers must submit their returns for Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ), the National Housing Trust (NHT) and the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) on a single Employer’s Annual Return (S02) Form. In preparation for this change, effective immediately the respective offices will not be accepting returns for calendar year 2011, until January 9, 2012. At that time returns for 2011 must be submitted on the S02 Form.

The NHT will however continue to accept annual returns for years before 2011 on the old Annual Return Form.

The new, consolidated form SO2 form will replace the Employers Annual Return PAYE (Income Tax) – IT06, Employer’s Annual Return: Declaration and Certificate (NIS / NHT) – C4, Education Tax Self-Employed Annual Return – ET02 and Education Tax Organization Annual Return – ET03, as well as the relevant schedules and deduction cards.

Employers now have up to March 31, 2012 to submit the new consolidated S02 return. However the submission of the monthly S01 and the related payments for December 2011, are still due on or before January 16, 2012.

Visit the website www.jamaicatax.gov.jm for details on the new service or on how to register for online filing. Or visit the NHT website at frequently asked questions

NHT SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES AT DECEMBER 2011

For the period October to December 2011, the NHT through its Social Development Department (SDD), organised a number of activities across the island. These activities are empowering residents of NHT communities through training; safety and security; sports; music and employment.

Safety and security groups in NHT communities

With the help of the SDD, 12 security groups have been formed in a number of NHT housing schemes. These are: Esher, Cornwall Gardens, Orange Bay, Georges Pen, Bushy Park Phase 2, Portmore Pines, Christian Gardens, St. Jago Grove, Royal Place, Kings Heights, Victoria Courts, Angels Grove, Claremont Heights, Golden Heights and Monaltrie. Group members were taught how to audit their communities, and how to develop safety and security plans.

Parish Scheme Association (PSA) audits

In an effort to plan further community development, the SDD has started an audit of Parish Scheme Associations in St. James; Trelawny; St. Mary; Portland; St. Thomas, Kingston and St. Andrew as well as Clarendon.

Sports and other NHT assistance for communities

Ten associations participated in the annual sports day event hosted by the Western Joint Scheme Association. This was held at the Cornwall Court Community Playfield. The Clarendon NHT/PSA will host its sports event during February 2012.

Other events organised by the SDD during November 2011 are “Music for Transformation” meetings in Providence Heights and the training of 75 residents of the Union Estates Scheme in New Home Ownership. Additionally the SDD assisted five residents to gain employment through referrals. The SDD also assisted in the formation of a men’s group in Palm Courts.
