Berlin World Championship 400-metre gold medallist, Jamaican-born American Sanya Richards has launched the 2009 edition of the Sanya Richards Fast Track Programme.

The launch, which was attended by Minister of Education, Andrew Holness, took place yesterday at Kingston High School on King Street.

The programme is a partnership between the Minister of Education and the Miami based organization Fun 4 Kids and is a combination of literary and extra-curricular activities.

Robert Miller, special assistant to the Minister of Education, said the programme will help to promote education and sports.

The programme will operate on a weekly basis for six weeks. It is expected to benefit 375 children from Bridgeport High, Tarrant High, Tivoli Gardens, Penwood and Donald Quarrie.

American Sprinter Lauryn Williams is also in the island to assist with the programme.
