The computer laboratory at the Jamaica Bible College and Community Institute (JBCCI) which has been rocked by a series of burglaries that left the institution in shambles, is once again up and running thanks to Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB).
The school, which was established in 1945, serves a wide cross section of the community and provides educational opportunities for students to achieve skills training, high school diploma and college education to the bachelor degree level.
Currently serving nearly 1,000 students, it has been a pillar of strength to needy students and parents affording them quality education that they would not otherwise have been able to access.
President of the JBCCI, Dr. Owen Gordon, was most disheartened after the last break-in earlier this year, he however told The Gleaner that he is committed to see the institution continue to serve the community and such negative acts would not deter the school from its mission.
It is against that background that the management of Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) answered the school’s pleas for help in restoring its computer lab.
JMMB handed over two new computers to the school during its devotion exercise on Thursday, September 24, 2009.
Marcia Whittaker, branch manager for JMMB Mandeville, who handed over the computers, said that her company was making the donation to assist JBCCI with their
education process.
She said, education is the sure way to help alleviate the attraction to committing crimes that the country is now experiencing.
The units were received by Dr. Owen Gordon and board member of the institution Dr. Peter Spencer on behalf of the school.
