The National Solid Waste Management Agency warned that persons need to containerise their garbage before it can be picked up. This revelation was made at the monthly general meeting of the St. Catherine Parish Council on Thursday. Councillor Leon Thomas of the Hellshire Division enquired of the representative why the garbage that has been piling up in Greater Portmore at the high school and primary school and also at the Kensington Primary are not being moved. He was told that the first world standards are now being used locally by the handlers of garbage should not be touching or moving garbage if it is not containerised. And in addition, the council was told that persons such as principals of the schools can be prosecuted for failing to do these things.
It was promised to the councillors however that efforts would be made to deal with the situation as best as possible.
